Investor Program
Under the Immigrant Investor Program, the Canadian government grants permanent residence to
attract experienced business people. An investor is a foreign national who:
- has 2 years of business experience in a qualifying business in the last 5 years.
- has a legally obtained net worth of at least $800,000 and
- invests Canadian $400,000 with the Government of Canada for five years
The original investment amount is refunded back after 5 years and 2 months without any interest.
Alternatively, some financial institutions allow making a non-refundable down payment
of approximately $120,000 instead of you giving full $400,000 investment
to the government. The financial institution will provide loan to the Government on your
behalf.
Milestone Canada Immigration Services will arrange the loan from financial institution
for your investment. For more information and determining your eligibility as an
investor, please contact us.
What is Business Experience
Your business experience can be two one-year periods of experience:
- in the management of a qualifying business and the control of a percentage of equity of the qualifying business
during the period beginning five years before the date of application for a permanent
resident visa OR
- two one-year periods of experience in the management of at least five full-time job
equivalents per year in a business during the period beginning five years before the
date of application for a permanent resident visa and ending on the day a determination
is made in respect of the application OR
- a combination of a one-year period of experience described in subparagraph (a) and
a one-year period of experience described in subparagraph (b).
How is your investment managed
Your investment is managed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and is guaranteed by
the Canadian provinces that use it to create jobs and help their economies grow. CIC will
return your C$400,000 investment, without interest, about five years and two months after
payment.
Qualifying Business
Qualifying business means a business — other than a business operated primarily for the
purpose of deriving investment income such as interest, dividends or capital gains — for
which, during the year under consideration, there is documentary evidence of any two of
the following:
-
the percentage of equity multiplied by the number of full time job equivalents is
equal to or greater than two full-time job equivalents per year
-
the percentage of equity multiplied by the total annual sales is equal to or
greater than $500,000
-
the percentage of equity multiplied by the net income in the year is equal to or
greater than $50,000 and
-
the percentage of equity multiplied by the net assets at the end of the year is
equal to or greater than $125,000
